Myths, stories and characters…Photographer Adrien Broom
Glamorous while still artistic, the work of Adrien Broom seems almost surreal with a hidden story being told. The technique she uses adds an appearance of a photograph with a painterly overlay. Done with such dramatic flair, her photos are both chic and mysterious. The sets she constructs herself complement the model and pieces themselves beautifully. They are enthralling, drawing the viewer in, both with the elaborate set decoration and the inviting allure of the models.
High Society Art Dolls by Alexandra Koukinova
Exquisitely detailed brocade patterning and rich costume fabrics are joined together in these elegant art dolls by Russian artisan Alexandra Koukinova.
These ladies have been attired in striking early art deco fashion style, something you’ll hardly expect to encounter these days! The look gives me a strong nostalgic feeling, similar to the kind you get when you see old black and white films with flickering noise and a staccato framerate.
Alas, the male fashion of that period appears to be of the more mundane suit and optional hat variety, which leaves the exhibition here exclusive to the fairer sex. One final note – the source for the specimens featured here is not readily apparent, but you can find their section tucked away in the Museum section
Alicia Savage - Live what you love
Alicia Savage is a self-portrait photographer based in Boston, Massachusetts. Her fine art photography is very much a documentation of her life and mind as a 29-year-old woman exploring life; inspired by her surroundings and recent travels.
“Photography has opened my mind and heart to understand myself and the world beyond what is assumed; to always be inspired by my curiosity and imagination of what is and could be.”
Poland-based artist Barbara Florczyk sees the world in shades of imagination. Surreal, haunting, even heart-rending, her completed pieces of photo manipulation art create a very distinct mood, even upon first glance. From the vibrant tones of sunset stretched across a distant horizon to the downtrodden, bowler-hat-wearing lover sitting in the rain, Florczyk’s images do what every artist aspires to: elicit emotion from the viewer. With almost 65,000 page views on her Deviant Art account, Florcyzk, also known as Kokoszkaa, is attracting the attention of photo manip enthusiasts and lovers of pretty stuff to look at. Prints are available for purchase via her DA site.

Leandro Erlich, Reflective Optical Illusion House Now in London
Argentine artist Leandro Erlich was commissioned by the Barbican in London to install a version of his wildly popular optical illusion that creates the visual effect of instant weightlessness. Using a wall of giant mirrors propped against a huge horizontal print of a Victorian terraced house, visitors are free to climb and jump around as their reflections appear to move freely without the pesky effects of gravity.
